By reading this article you will be able to take a glimpse on the realm of the Post Partum Depression could cause. The stories from people who have gone through and experienced it will be more assuring.  The certainty that anyone could be a victim of such chaos should alarm both the mother and the family.  So, don't delay.   Get the help you need now.  You and your baby deserve it!

As a matter of fact, postpartum depression can actually happen anytime within the first year after childbirth.     Many women don't tell anyone about their feelings or symptoms because they feel ashamed or embarrassed.  Some even feel guilty because they're supposed to be happy.  They worry what other people think.

If you are experiencing postpartum depression, please don’t hesitate to get the help you need.  Remember not to be ashamed, embarrassed or even feel guilty.

Post-Partum Depression is Affecting More Women... Even famous people such as Brooke Shields, Marie Osmond and others have gone through postpartum depression.  They've even written books on their experience so that they can help those who suffer as they did.

Brooke Shields talked about her disabling Post Partum Depression in her  published book "Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression." Shields reported she first had difficulty bonding with her baby and later thought of hurting it and even killing herself. She was able to gain a significant improvement in her mood through medication and the help of a skilled nurse-helper who recognized her problem and encouraged her to get help.

Marie Osmond. In 1999, Osmond revealed that she had suffered from severe postpartum depression.[4] She co-authored a book called Behind the Smile with Marcia Wilkie and Dr. Judith Moore which chronicles her experiences with postpartum depression. Marie Osmond recalls in her book how he cover it up with a smile despite the fact that she knows deep inside her that she is suffering post partum depression. She attributed her survival to her parents and family whom she considered as source of strength and comfort.

Britney Spears.  February 2007 reports indicate that Britney Spears may not be an out-of-control party animal. Doctors are suggesting that she make in fact be struggling with Post-Partum Depression… a malady that afflicts many women following childbirth.

Although Britney is checked into a rehab centre, her substance abuse problems seem to be secondary to her PPD difficulties, adding her name to the long list of women plagued by this increasingly common form of depression.

Britney took comfort from reading Brooke Shield’s own personal account of her struggle with Post-Partum Depression… another indication of just how common this problem really is.

Vivien Leigh, actress made famous by her leading role in "Gone With the Wind" and her creative
genus for stage and screen, suffered from serious bouts of manic depression, tuberculosis, and poor
health her entire life. Vivien was once able to make a full recovery after shock treatments, only to succumb some years later. A nervous breakdown associated with a miscarriage proved to be the unraveling of her marriage with actor Lawrence Olivier who continued to be a devoted friend. She was finally diagnosed with cyclical manic-depression with hallucinations and had to be confined to a nursing
home only to recover and return to the screen for her last movie. Leigh finally succumbed to the
tuberculosis at the young age of 53 of while filming “The Ship of Fools”. She became known and
admired for her ability to fulfill her passionate dream for stardom despite her TB and debilitating
manic-depression.

Sadie Frost. Actress Sadie Frost's memoir, "Crazy Days," delves into her experience with postpartum depression over several years during her marriage to actor Jude Law.

Sadly, Frost experienced PPD twice, following the births of her second and third children. Not only did she suffer a breakdown and at one point had to stay in a psychiatric ward, her disorder was apparently the cause for the unraveling of her marriage. One night she actually slashed her arm with a pair of scissors. Her description of how emotionally detached and empty she felt while cutting herself is creepy, but sadly familiar to many women who have suffered from PPD.

The article closes with these pearls of wisdom from Frost: "I've realised, as a woman and a mother, that depression is not something we like to admit to. The stigma remains: as a mother you are supposed to cope and not admit defeat. What saved me was being able to ask for help and to accept it. It was the best thing to do because as soon as I did, recovery was swift.”

The good news is that Frost survived her ordeal and it sounds like she's the better for it, with four children and, now, a healthy and happy life.
